KAPP has hired Sölvi Sturluson Snæfeld, an aquaculture specialist, to further strengthen the company’s services and solutions for the aquaculture industry.

KAPP specializes in services and solutions for fish and poultry processing, aquaculture, and grocery retailers. Ólafur Karl Sigurðarson, CEO of KAPP, says there has been a significant increase in services delivered to aquaculture companies over the past year, and that the company’s strategy is to ensure outstanding service for the aquaculture sector, just as it does for the other industries it serves.

“Aquaculture is an important part of the development of a sustainable food industry. There is tremendous innovation and exciting progress taking place. Over the past year, we have increased our focus on both software and hardware solutions for aquaculture, and that journey has resulted in satisfied customers and growing demand. With the hiring of Sölvi as an addition to our strong team, we are following through on that strategy and intend to offer an even broader range of services and solutions in the coming months,” says Ólafur Karl.

KAPP already has Valþór Hermannsson, KAPP’s Head of Development, who leads the company’s development work together with a strong group of specialists with extensive experience and expertise. “With this team, I believe we are at the forefront when it comes to service for aquaculture. We very much look forward to taking the next steps together with our customers,” says Ólafur Karl.

Valþór Hermannsson, KAPP’s Head of Development, Sölvi Sturluson Snæfeld, Aquaculture Operations Manager, and Ólafur Karl Sigurðarson, the company’s CEO.

Sölvi is well acquainted with the aquaculture industry, having worked in it for nearly three decades, and brings extensive knowledge and experience. He has been involved in farming salmon, rainbow trout, Arctic char, giant shrimp, sea urchins, cod, turbot, and lumpfish. For the past eight years, Sölvi served as Managing Director of Aqua.is/Eldvara ehf, an import and service company in Iceland for aquaculture.

“It is extremely important that Icelandic service companies are in place to support the rapidly growing land-based aquaculture sector. Water quality is an absolutely critical factor for success, and that will be our focus. With increased emphasis on monitoring and controlling water quality along with other key factors, the path to success is clear for an industry that will multiply in size over the coming years,” says Sölvi.

Ólafur Karl adds that it is admirable to see the strong aquaculture companies operating in Iceland. “Such projects require great knowledge, determination, and vision, and development in the sector is significant, as the public knows, with companies such as Thor Landeldi, Laxey, Samherji, First Water, Sæbýli, and others.”
